Kindergarten

Religion

We use two curriculum resources for our religion program, Stories of God’s Love and Revealed (a Theology of the Body program for schools).  Both series focus on Creation and the gifts and talents that God has given us.  We will learn about the many saints that the Church has recognized and explore how we can model our lives after them.  We will learn to pray as Jesus taught us, focusing on the Mealtime Prayer, The Angel of God Prayer, the Our Father Prayer, and the Hail Mary.  We will attend Mass on Fridays with our 5th grade buddies.  We will also spend time with Jesus in Adoration!

Phonics/Reading//Writing

We will learn letter and letter sounds using the phonics program, UFLI.  It is a systematic and explicit phonics program that begins with letters and letter sounds, and continues with decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling) simple words.

As we listen to stories in kindergarten, we will learn to recognize the characters, the setting, and the problem/solution.  We will learn that the author and illustrator have different roles in creating a story.

We will learn to write letters, short words, and then short sentences!  We will write sentences that begin with capital letters and ending with punctuation.

Math

In addition to our daily, math-focused morning meeting and the My Math series, we will begin using Simple Solutions as a daily math practice. The basic concepts of kindergarten math are:  geometry, sorting, counting and recognizing numbers,composing/decomposing groups, addition/subtraction, and much, much more!

Science

The Nancy Larson Science series incorporates science that is relevant to kindergarten–age learners.  We learn about our five senses, healthy bodies, seasons, states of matter, force, and life cycles.  Hands-on learning makes it fun!
